  • Interview questions — 100+ banned, safe alternatives, standardized scoring rubrics
  • Background checks — FCRA compliance, ban-the-box laws (NJ, NY, Philadelphia), adverse action procedures
  • Drug testing — pre-employment, random, post-incident, NJ medical marijuana protections
  • 1099 vs. W-2 — NJ ABC test, PA modified A&C, NY framework
  • Exempt vs. non-exempt classification (the duties test, in plain English)
  • I-9 compliance and the 3-business-day rule
  • Day-one onboarding documents and the 90-day documentation cadence

The compliance scaffolding most owners are missing.
$197

  • NJ leave laws — Paid Sick Leave, NJ Family Leave Act, jury, military, voting
  • NY leave laws — Paid Family Leave, sick leave, paid voting time
  • PA leave laws and Philadelphia-specific rules
  • Arbitration agreements — when they hold up, when they don't, NJ/NY enforceability traps
  • Required state postings (and where to get them free)
  • NY mandatory annual harassment training (no headcount minimum)
  • Employee handbook essentials — what to include, what gets you sued
Live Q&A: Bring your leave situations, arbitration questions, and policy gaps. Real cases get real answers.
03

Wages, Tips, Bonuses & Pay Decisions

The wage trap that costs owners 5 figures.

  • NJ/PA/NY state tip overlays and tipped employee protections
  • Bonuses — discretionary vs. non-discretionary, regular rate calculations
  • Sign-on bonuses and clawback enforceability per state
  • Raises, salary decreases, FT/PT reclassification — how to communicate without exposure
  • Offer letters vs. employment contracts — when you need which, and why
  • Off-the-clock work, meal breaks, on-call time, travel time, training time
  • Final pay timing per state — the rule that catches most owners
Live Q&A: Bring your real pay structures, bonus plans, and reclassification questions. We'll pressure-test them live.

Why live, why not pre-recorded

If it could be a video, it would be on YouTube.

Pre-recorded HR training is a commodity.

YouTube has it. Udemy has it. ChatGPT generates it. Pre-recorded modules are useful for teaching definitions and frameworks — but the moments that actually cost owners money aren't framework moments.

They're situation moments. A complaint just came in. A worker's classification just got challenged. A termination just got messy. In those moments, you don't need a definition. You need someone who's been there.

Live workshops let you bring your real situations into the room and walk out with a real path forward. That's what AI cannot replicate. Pattern recognition from 500+ real cases. Reading the nuance of a specific situation. Hearing other owners' similar challenges and learning from them too.

That's why every class is live. Every class has Q&A. Every class has the room to handle the situation you brought in with you.

Honest Self-Check

Who this is for.

These workshops are sharply focused. Here's whether they fit.

This is for you if…
  • You own a business with 1–50 employees in NJ, PA, or NY
  • You want answers to your specific situations, not generic theory
  • You're concerned about compliance but don't know what you're missing
  • You'd rather prevent a $50K mistake than litigate one
  • You want to learn alongside other owners facing the same challenges
  • You value live expertise over pre-recorded videos
This isn't for you if…
  • You already have an in-house HR team or fractional CHRO
  • You want generic federal compliance (this is tri-state-specific)
  • You're in active employment litigation — call an attorney first
  • You prefer self-paced video and don't want live attendance
  • You operate exclusively outside NJ, PA, and NY
  • You're looking for legal advice (this is education — different lane)

Common Questions

Before you enroll.

Why no free webinar or trial class?
Live time is the most valuable thing about these workshops. We don't give it away. The Penny case study (free, on the homepage) and the 90-second risk quiz are designed to help you decide whether the curriculum fits your situation before you spend a dollar.
What if I miss a class I bought?
Every class is recorded and posted within 24 hours. Bundle buyers can also attend any future cycle of the same class within 12 months — so missing one date doesn't mean missing the class. Single-class buyers get the recording and the workbook.
Can I take just one class, or do I have to do all four?
Single classes are $197 each ($247 for Class 4). Each class is built to stand on its own — no prerequisites. Most owners start with the class that addresses their most pressing concern and add others later.
How big are the classes?
Capped at 30 attendees. Larger classes can't sustain real Q&A — and Q&A is the entire point. Once a class hits cap, you go on the waitlist for the next cycle (which is no more than 8 weeks away).
Is this a substitute for a lawyer?
No. This is HR education, not legal advice. When you need legal counsel — especially during active investigations or pending litigation — Meghan will tell you, and she has a network of tri-state employment attorneys to refer to. The workshops are designed to help you avoid the situations that need lawyers in the first place.
Refund policy?
Full refund up to 7 days before class. After that, no refund — but bundle buyers can attend any future cycle of the same class within 12 months. Class recordings and workbooks remain accessible regardless.
Can I get an invoice for my bookkeeping?
Yes. Stripe automatically generates a receipt at checkout. For a custom invoice, email meghan@luman-group.com and one will be issued same-day.
